The Sweet Magic of Coffee

Poetry Jul 13, 2021

We met first at a small café,
It was a grey afternoon and it rained all the way.
The longing to reach home was overwhelming,
But I thank God for such a beautiful setting.

Hard to stay without talking I realized,
Just to break the ice, an excuse I devised.
I said to her, “Hey! The weather seems harsh today, but what a wonderful place
we have landed.
Would you like a cup of coffee?” as both of us were stranded.

The hours went by, and the talks did too,
The coffee kept us going, got never tired soon.
The strangest thing I was amazed to see,
This cup of coffee brought a friend for me!

That’s where it all started, the meeting were done often now.
This friend I made just a few days ago, seemed to be the one I met long ago.
Both of were so addicted to it,
We never ever had a day when we missed it.

This friend eventually turned into love,
And I, finally told her for me she was above all.
But I had sad news also with it,
I had to leave her and go far far away.

She said, “It’s ok, I know this was your dream.
“I’m happy for you dear! I was the first to hop and scream.
And don’t worry about me I’ll be fine
The coffee is what will keep our hearts online.”

Many years passed, I made a successful living.
I called her up to tell her, finally back I was coming.
Now I look back at these years and wish they could come back.
To be honest, both of us are happy,
Because it’s the sweet magic of that one cup of coffee.
